This exhibition celebrates the hand made craft of photography with it's many historical and individual techniques, that are still produced by artists to this day and hold their own unique characteristics.
In 1930 Walter Benjamin referred to the relatively young photographic medium as he lamented that the aura “in the era of technical reproduction of art” withered away.
Presently, in the digital era, we have to reevaluate our appreciation. It's exactly the analog, historical and photographic processes that are spreading their charm. In contrast to unlimited possibilities of the digital reproduction the artists presented in the exhibition have created unique one of kind pieces out of light sensitive material.
Through the fascinating images the following historical processes will be presented:
Ambrotype, analogue silver-gelatine print, cyanotype, daguerrotype, emulsion lift, handcoloured photography, pinhole photography, photoemulsion, photogram, photo-relief, manipuated polaroid, salt print.
Kommunale Galerie Berlin, Photowerk Berlin, Hohenzollerndamm 176, 10713 Berlin
